Carrera Solar Atacama
Once again on track. Once again together. The fourth edition of Carrera Solar Atacama will take place in Chile this year in April.
This is organized by the association La Ruta Solar, that continually supports the technological progress and projects based on renewable energies like this event, about which the first edition was in 2011.
The competition is divided into two categories: Hybrid and Evolution.
The first category includes the participation of 14 teams from all over the world with hybrid prototypes with pedals and with the possibility of getting electric energy through stations of solar recharge.
The second category includes 7 teams with vehicles completely powered by photovoltaic panels built into the structure. This is the category of our team Onda Solare, that once again is the only Italian team. Together and against us other six teams from Chile, India, Bolivia and Venezuela.
This time the Carrera Solar Atacama provided for running 2300 km. It will be a new and intringuing edition that will make us deal with high altitudes, the possibility of clouds close to the coastal areas and at last the extreme warmth of the driest desert of the world: the desert of Atacama.
Here we will traverl through three different regions: Atacama, Tarapaca and Antofagasta.
On the 13rd of April every team will have to present themselves and their vehicles at the Palacio de la Moneda, in Santiago of Chile. For our category the race will start on the 21st of April and will end on the 26th of the same month. It will be divided into five phases, each of which consists of the following stages:
- Phase 1 (April 21st ) - Iquique – Tocopilla – Calama;
- Phase 2 (April 22nd) - Calama – Toconao – Calama – San Pedro de Atacama;
- Day of rest (Aprile 23rd)
- Phase 3 (April 24th) - Sierra Gorda – Baquedano – Chanaral;
- Phase 4 (April 25th ) - Diego de Almagro – Antofagasta;
- Phase 5 (Aprile 26th) - Cozze – Tocopilla – Pozo Almonte.
The award ceremony will take place on the 27th of April, the day after the official conclusion of the race.
Leandro Valencia, managing director of the association La Ruta Solar, declares:"We are very happy to announce that we have 21 new teams that have worked on the development of vehicles based on clean energy and energy efficiency, reaching more countries than in previous editions".
A common thought to all the volunteers, universities, and technical institutes from all over the world that are united by the work and passion for technological progress and that, like us, give themselves to this great challenge.
Carrera Solar Ataca, we are coming!
