“Chiunque avesse idee per contenuti da pubblicare sulle nostre pagine social è libero di proporre!”

Così avevamo scritto, un paio di mesi fa, nel gruppo Whatsapp in cui noi del team ci scambiamo comunicazioni interne.

E così una persona, presa dalla noia del non poter lavorare attivamente sulla nostra Emilia 5 che è ancora in balia delle onde oceaniche, ha iniziato a buttare giù pensieri. Tutto nell’ingenua speranza che questi venissero pubblicati con discrezione, in maniera impersonale, in uno dei tanti post con cui vi aggiorniamo settimanalmente sulle novità della squadra…e invece!

Ci sembrava riduttivo, sprecato riassumere tutto nelle poche righe di un post. Abbiamo quindi deciso di redigere questo articolo, facendo un regalo di Natale a tutti i membri del team con le parole di Mauro.

La migliore trasferta di sempre

C’è un elemento che torna, sempre, in ogni trasferta nei deserti del pianeta:
l’affiatamento tra le persone che partecipano davvero alla trasferta. È ovvio, ma non è mai scontato.

Chi non è alla prima esperienza sa cosa c’è da fare, chi lo è, immagina cosa c’è da fare.
Questa differenza, negli anni, ha generato piccoli problemi, mai determinanti per i risultati, ma a volte sufficienti a rendere le trasferte più faticose o a lasciare qualche segno nei ricordi.

Questa volta no: questa volta si è formata quella che, senza esitazione, posso definire
la squadra perfetta. Quella che ha reso possibile, secondo me, la migliore trasferta di sempre di Onda Solare.

Un gruppo eterogeneo, complementare, efficiente e mai dispersivo.
Capace di affrontare e risolvere con professionalità tutti gli ostacoli che sapevamo ci avrebbero aspettato lungo la strada per Adelaide.

Ed è giusto dirlo chiaramente: questo è un ringraziamento.

Responsabilità (in)visibili

Ci sono ruoli complicati, altri ingrati. E poi quelli che sono entrambe le cose.
Il team manager rientra senza dubbio in quest’ultima categoria.

Giulia, alla sua prima esperienza come team manager, ha portato una responsabilità enorme: l’immagine di efficienza che Onda Solare ha dato verso l’esterno e verso l’organizzazione è frutto soprattutto della sua attenzione al milione di incombenze che la BWSC dissemina lungo il percorso che porta ad Adelaide.
Ha dimostrato competenza, determinazione e solidità da veterana. Un ruolo che protegge e valorizza il lavoro di tutti.

Di Ruggero non saprei nemmeno da dove cominciare. All’inizio del nostro percorso insieme – vent’anni fa – mi preoccupava: non si fermava mai, non chiedeva mai aiuto.
A trafficare su Emilia o in circuito anche col febbrone.
Ora so semplicemente che non è sostituibile.
Il suo senso pratico, la conoscenza di ogni parte della missione, lo rendono non solo il presidente della nostra associazione, ma il vero riferimento operativo quando siamo all’estero.
E quando prende una decisione nessuno sente il bisogno di fare diversamente.

Marco è probabilmente nella posizione più complessa di tutte: unico elettrico in trasferta, con la responsabilità diretta della batteria e un insieme di compiti che richiedono concentrazione totale.
Tra elettronica, strategia e guida, non può permettersi distrazioni.
E in officina ha dimostrato negli anni una predisposizione rara per i lavori “polverosi” di costruzione: quelli che fanno davvero la differenza.

Oltre il ruolo

Riccardo ha una qualità che fin’ora  ho incontrato solo una volta in un compagno di viaggio: una vivacità contagiosa, capace di trascinare il gruppo nei momenti di leggerezza.
In trasferte faticose come Sudafrica e Australia, questo valore è inestimabile.
E se durante i cinque giorni di gara la strategia lo assorbe completamente, la disponibilità con cui racconta e spiega le prestazioni della macchina è finalmente pienamente soddisfacente.

Morena è un caso a parte. “Capo laminatrice” è una definizione riduttiva: il primo giorno in officina ha laminato un modellino, sette giorni dopo uno degli elementi più complessi da realizzare, una ruota. ☀️
Questo è il personaggio: tutto le riesce bene, subito, senza esitazioni, con una volontà che non conosce rallentamenti o rinunce.
È un punto di riferimento, forse il più grande di Onda Solare.

Di Minak c’è poco da spiegare: Onda Solare non esisterebbe più da tempo senza di lui.
I premi, quelli che ormai sembrano “normali”, sono il frutto diretto della sua competenza.
La calma con cui gestisce attività complesse fa sembrare tutto possibile.

Chi c’era

Nicole è una presenza fondamentale nelle trasferte di questo tipo: rappresenta il team con consapevolezza, capisce bisogni e obblighi, ed è pronta a esporsi quando serve.

Laura è la dimostrazione che la mela, a volte, non cade lontano dall’albero: grinta, energia, agilità mentale. Nelle due trasferte a cui ha partecipato si è resa subito utile, desiderosa di ruoli impegnativi. Spero continui ancora a lungo questo percorso.

Marco, insieme a Davide e Fabrizio, per me non è una questione di “noi o loro”: chi condivide fatiche e disagi è parte del gruppo.
Ho ricevuto complimenti per i contenuti di comunicazione, testuali e video: ve li giro tutti, sperando che non finisca qui.

Carretti è entrato in Sudafrica da ragazzino ed è tornato più maturo.
Sempre disponibile per ogni attività, ha mantenuto efficiente e pulita una parte delicata di Emilia, i freni, storicamente una bestia nera dei nostri prototipi.

Gabriele smentisce ogni luogo comune sui giovani: instancabile, affidabile, lucido anche nelle emergenze. Alla prima trasferta, si è guadagnato il rispetto di tutti.

Leonardo ha contribuito a rendere il 2025 un’annata eccezionale per l’IIS Ferrari di Maranello.
Mai con le mani in mano.

Giacinto e Loretta svolgono ruoli ingrati quanto fondamentali nella logistica e nell’organizzazione.
Spero davvero resistano ancora: senza di loro sarebbe tutto più difficile.

E poi Filippo. Il suo è un ruolo centrale, prezioso. Filippo rappresenta una quantità di tempo condiviso che per me ha un valore enorme. Non so se l’età ci porterà ad altre trasferte, ma anche se dovessimo “rovinare” un po’ le foto delle nuove leve con qualche ruga e capello bianco… beh, pazienza…! 😎☀️

“A couple of months ago, we wrote in our internal WhatsApp group:
‘Anyone who has ideas for content to share on our social media pages is more than welcome to speak up!’

And so it happened.

With our Emilia 5 still at the mercy of ocean waves and the resulting pause in hands-on work, one team member—driven partly by boredom—started putting thoughts down on paper. All of this with the innocent hope that those reflections would quietly make their way into one of the many weekly posts we use to keep you updated on the team’s progress… but that’s not quite how it turned out!

We felt it would have been a shame to compress everything into just a few lines of a social media post. So we decided to turn those thoughts into a full article instead, offering a small Christmas gift to all team members: Mauro’s words.

The best team trip ever

There is one element that always comes back, in every journey across the world’s deserts:
the level of cohesion among the people who truly take part in the trip.
It sounds obvious, but it never really is.

Those who are not at their first experience know what needs to be done; those who are, imagine what needs to be done. Over the years, this difference has occasionally caused small issues, never enough to affect results, but sometimes enough to make trips more exhausting or leave a mark in people’s memories.

This time, it didn’t happen.

This time, what took shape was what I can say without hesitation was
the perfect team. The team that made this, in my opinion, the best trip Onda Solare has ever had.

A diverse, complementary group, efficient, focused, never scattered.
A group capable of facing and solving, with professionalism, every obstacle we knew would be waiting for us on our way to Adelaide.

It deserves to be said clearly: this is a thank you.

The weight of responsibility

Some roles are complex, some are thankless, some are both.
The team manager role certainly falls into the last category.

Giulia, in her first experience as team manager, carried an enormous responsibility.
The image of efficiency that Onda Solare presented to the outside world – and to the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge organization – was largely the result of her attention to the countless requirements that the BWSC spreads along the long road to Adelaide.
She showed competence, determination, and the steadiness of a veteran. A role that protects and enhances everyone’s work.

As for Ruggero, I hardly know where to begin.
At the start of our journey together – twenty years ago – I used to worry about him: he never stopped, never asked for help.
Working on Emilia or at the track, even with a high fever.
Now I simply know that he is irreplaceable.

His practical mindset and deep knowledge of every part of the mission make him not only the president of our association, but the true operational reference point when we are abroad.
And when he makes a decision, no one feels the need to do otherwise.

Marco is probably in the most demanding position of all: the only electrical engineer on the trip, directly responsible for the battery and for a set of tasks that require total concentration.
Between electronics, strategy, and driving, distractions are not an option.
And in the workshop, over the years, he has shown a rare talent for the “dusty” construction work, the kind that truly makes the difference.

Beyond the role

Riccardo has a quality I have encountered only once before in a travel companion:
a contagious liveliness, capable of pulling the whole group into moments of lightness when they are most needed.
On demanding trips like South Africa and Australia, this quality is invaluable.
And if strategy absorbs him completely during the five days of racing, the openness with which he explains and shares the car’s performance is now fully satisfying.

Morena is a case of her own.
“Head laminator” is an understatement: on her first day in the workshop she laminated a small model; seven days later, one of the most complex components to build: a wheel ☀️
That’s her in a nutshell: everything works immediately, without hesitation, driven by a determination that knows no slowing down or giving up.
She is a reference point, perhaps the strongest one within Onda Solare.

There is little to explain about Minak: Onda Solare would no longer exist without him.
The technical-innovative awards that now almost feel “normal” are the direct result of his competence.
The calm with which he manages complex activities makes everything seem possible.

Those who were there

Nicole is a fundamental presence on trips like these.
She represents the team with awareness, understands needs and responsibilities, and is ready to step forward whenever necessary.

Laura is proof that the apple sometimes doesn’t fall far from the tree: determination, energy, and mental agility.
In the two trips she has taken part in, she became useful immediately, eager to take on demanding roles. I hope she continues along this path for a long time.

Marco, together with Davide and Fabrizio… is not a matter of “us or them”, to me.
Anyone who shares the effort and discomfort is part of the group.
I have received many compliments on the written and video communication content – passed on to you all here – and I hope this is not the end.

Carretti joined us in South Africa at the Sasol – Solar Challenge as a very young student and returned more mature.
He kept a delicate part of Emilia – the braking system – efficient and clean, an area that has historically been a weak point of our prototypes.

Gabriele disproves every cliché about young people: tireless, reliable, and clear-headed even in emergencies. On his very first trip, he earned everyone’s respect.

Leonardo helped make 2025 an exceptional year for the Ferrari Institute of Maranello.
Never standing idle, always ready to step in.

Giacinto and Loretta carry out roles that are as thankless as they are fundamental in logistics and organization. I truly hope they stay on: without them, everything would be harder.

And then there is Filippo. His role has been central and precious.
Filippo represents a shared amount of time that holds enormous value for me.
I don’t know whether age will allow us many more trips and challenges, but even if we slightly “ruin” the photos of the younger generation with a few wrinkles and white hairs…
well, so be it… 😎☀️
